New EP + MP3 from Thee More Shallows

Thee More Shallows are back (relatively quick considering the last three year draught between their last two albums) with a new EP, Monkey Vs. Shark. The EP’s seven tracks include a remix of “Freshman” by Odd Nosdam with Why?, which is just a super-sweet use of Bay Area resources in my opinion, as well as a stripped down version of Al Green’s “I Can’t Get Next To You:”
I Can’t Get Next To You [MP3, 4.4MB, 128kbps]
Looks like they’re having a one-off release show for the EP on May 25th at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, for those of you who are geographically fortunate enough to attend.

Play It As It Lays #229

This show started off with a bang! A great new track from the Australian funk band The Bamboos… If you’re listening at work, beware of that Mylo track: plenty of choice words your boss may frown on.

Sean’s 2005 Year-End List

3hive.com. Year two. I’m going to take the first shot at a year end list with my fine cohorts following sporadically through the end of the year. That way you’ll have a chance to digest it all little by little. Speaking of those cohorts I want to thank Sam, Jon, Clay, Shan, and Joe for their time and taste, rare and refined, because without them I wouldn’t be writing this, you wouldn’t be reading this, and worst of all, we all would have missed out on 365 days of finely rolled joints, top choice cuts, or any other overly-metaphored term for quality tunes. And as our reader Josh recently reminded me, one of the best things about 3hive, and I’ll add, any year-end list, is it gives you that extra kick in the pants to listen to things that you’ve been hearing about all year, but you haven’t actually heard them yet. Start hearing:
