Lia Ices has one of those voices that leaves a mark on your soul. A voice you can’t forget. A voice that makes you want to put her albums on repeat and let them take you away.

Her fourth album (and first on her own label Natural Music), Family Album, is no exception as motherhood and relocating to California has served Ices well because Family Album is her strongest album yet.

Give the equally excellent “Young on the Mountain” and “Beauty Blue” a listen (below) for a sample, but I highly recommend listening to the entire album from start to finish over an over again like I’ve been doing.

Family Album is available now via Natural Music and Bandcamp. Enjoy.

Landscaping

I am a sucker for a solid groove and Landscaping’s (new solo project of Andrew Petersen) new album, Picturesque, is packed full it. From the Schroeder-like piano and programmed beats and clicks on “Woke Up On The Shore”, to the almost hidden (but way groovy) bass line on “Vacation”, to the full on 80’s vibe of album standout “Full Moon Lovers”, Picturesque is 26 minutes of wall to wall groove.

Give “Full Moon Lovers” (below) a spin, you’ll be glad that you did.

Picturesque is out now and available on CD or digitally via new label UPHERE! Records’ Bandcamp page. Enjoy.

Bananagun

Melbourne five-piece Bananagun bring their brand of funky exotica meets psychedelic rock goodness on their debut LP The True Story of Bananagun. This is a head-nodding, rump-shaking 11 tracks (including one with birds singing over the top of a killer bongo beat) of nothing but groove, it is safe to say this album has groove for days. Check out “Mushroom Bomb” and “Taking The Present For Granted” below, they will hook you for sure.

The True Story of Bananagun is out now via Full Time Hobby. It’s a good one. Enjoy.

Khruangbin

Khruangbin are back with Mordechai, their first proper album since their smash 2018 release Con Todo El Mundo. This new album has all the funk, groove and soul you’ve come to expect from a Khruangbin release, with the addition of vocals on most the tracks – which act more like an additional instrument rather than being at the forefront of the tracks – it’s a nice touch.

Mordechai is solid from beginning to end and perfect for those late night “stay home, stay safe” solo dance parties.

We have Mordechai on delicious transparent pink vinyl at the 3hive Record Lounge. It’s also available via Dead Oceans Records. Enjoy.

Take a trip through the tropical beats of South America and Japan with Monster Rally’s new two-part digital 45, Escape To The Cloud Forest. As usual, like everything MR releases, it’s really good.

Escape To The Cloud Forest is available now via MR’s Bandcamp page and you can sample its goodness below. Enjoy.

You can also pick up some other Monster Rally releases on vinyl at the 3hive Record Lounge. MR on vinyl is a treat, you won’t regret it.

Recorded mostly before all hell broke loose in 2020; New Jersey trio, Camino Sound, has unleashed their debut Western Excuses, on the world.

Comprised of 8 instrumental “soundtracks” (that’s how they refer to each song), Western Excuses weaves it’s way through many genres including psych-rock, funk, surf and straight up rock ‘n’ roll. These guys have chops for days.

Listen to “You Are The Map” and “Disculpas Occidentales” (below) for a taste. Western Excuses is available now via Camino Sound’s Bandcamp page. I highly Recommend it.

Peel Dream Magazine

Peel Dream Magazine are back with their incredible new LP, Agitprop Alterna. This sophomore release is so full of shimmery fuzz and gaze it’s sure to make any fans of Stereolab, Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine sit up and pay attention.

The male-female vocals throughout the album really shine alongside the shoegazy walls of sound. Check out “NYC Illuminati” (below) for a taste. It’s a head-nodder for sure and about three quarters of the way through, some sound effect kicks in that has you convinced there is water leaking somewhere around you, seriously, it freaked me out the first time I listened to it.

Agitprop Alterna is a solid record from start to finish. I can’t sum it up any clearer. It’s a contender for album of the year for me for sure.

Agitprop Alterna is out now via Slumberland Records. We also have it available at the 3hive Record Lounge. Pick it up. Spin it. Enjoy.

Stay safe everyone.

Our friends, The Prefab Messiahs, are back with another public service announcement in the form of a two and a half minute, psych-rock tune entitled “21st Century Failure”, which is more than appropriate for the current state of the world. Hopefully, their zany video (below) can help break up the monotony of self-isolation.

“21st Century Failure” is available now on all the streamers, including their Bandcamp page.

Stay safe everyone.

FACS

Chicago trio FACS are back with their third release in three years (2 LPs and 1 EP) entitled Void Moments. It’s dark and menacing and could be the soundtrack to one of those nightmares where you are endlessly chased by some unseen being with certain doom inevitable. I can’t stop listening to it. Check out “Teenage Hive” (below) for a sample.

Void Moments is out now via Trouble In Mind. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS RECORD, snag yourself a copy on vinyl from the 3hive Record Lounge.
