Oh No! Oh My!

If you haven’t lately, why not stop by our links page? There’s a few of the usual suspects as well as some sites you may not be familiar with. Lots of good stuff to discover, like this gem I found via You Ain’t No Picasso. What I like best about Oh No! Oh My! is what they don’t put in their songs. They use their white space well. Not that there’s empty spaces in the music, it’s just that every instrument counts. No filler. The best way to describe them is clap your hands and say yeah. I’m not talking about the band. Imagine if that was a sound, a genre: clap your hands and say yeah. That’s where you’d file Oh No! Oh My! Listen to “The Party Punch” and you’ll get it. I bet they’re a ton of fun live. A total jam band vibe…if by jam band I meant The Boy Least Likely To instead of Phish.

  1. I'm a regular reader/downloader and just wanted to say thanks for all your work on 3hive and all the great music you make easy to find! I hate shortchanging artists and I also hate spending money if I don't have to… and your site is a perfect and very easy alternative.

  2. are you sure you don't have 2 separate bands here? I think 3 of the songs is from The Jolly Rogers, 2 from Oh No! Oh My!…

  3. This band is so neat. You are right about the hand clapping simplicity of the tracks. With the weird lyrics and neat uppy melodies (listening to Jane is Fat right now) they remind me of They Might Be Giants if TMBG did more acoustic stuff.

  4. If you're a bit confused, I think I'm right in saying that the Jolly Rogers were comprised of the main trio of Oh No! Oh My? Am I right?

  5. We recorded a demo under The Jolly Rogers name…got sick of it…and changed our name to Oh No! Oh My!…we still play songs from The Jolly Rogers demo…and now "The Jolly Rogers" is just a name of our first demo/EP.
So same people in the band…different name.
Hopefully, we'll have a new website up in the next month or so, and that will help alleviate some of the misunderstandings.
    Sorry for the confusion!

  6. From the Oh No! Oh My! band site: "[The band name] IS officially Oh No! Oh My! We were called The Jolly Rogers until we found too many other bands with the same name. We are currently working on getting a new website designed, so once that is finished, you'll see a website that reflects the change."

  7. "Walk in the Park" has now been used in a brand new Telus Mobility (cell phone service company, if you're not aware) commercial, that airs about 700 times a day. Good work, guys.
