The Seeers

My first introduction to Virginia’s The Seeers came by way of the Windian Records Subscription Series #3. The Seeers’ contribution is probably the best of the series, so I was stoked when their new cassette release Early Songs arrived in my mailbox a couple weeks ago.

The Seeers play a swirling brand of reverb-laden psych rock with generous amounts of distorted guitars, and killer vocal melodies. Check out the earworm “Glacier” (below), it’s sure to bore it’s way into your brain and not leave for days.

Early Songs is available on cassette from Funny / Not Funny Records. It’s a must have for your collection. Enjoy.

Washington D.C.’s Dot Dash is a supergroup of indie and punk rock veterans from bands like Minor Threat, Julie Ocean, Youth Brigade and Swervedriver.

Check out opening track, “The Winter of Discontent” (below), from their newest LP, Earthquakes & Tidal Waves – it’s late 80’s Replacements meets Jawbreaker indie rock vibe is sure to make any fan of the genre sit up and take notice.

Earthquakes & Tidal Waves is available now via Canadian label The Beautiful Music. Enjoy.

Wet Trident

One of my favorite albums from last year is Lubec’s debut THE THRALL. So when Eddie (Lubec’s singer/guitarist) reached out to me about his new band Wet Trident I was all ears.

Wet Trident’s debut, Power Fails and Other Foreign Delights, does not disappoint. It’s chock full of angular guitars, vocal melodies and pounding drums – all candy for the ears. Check out “Miserably Visible” below, it’s sure to make any fans of Superchunk sit up and take notice.

Power Fails and Other Foreign Delights is out now and available digitally and on cassette (via Like Young Records) from Wet Trident’s Bandcamp page. Enjoy.

The Cairo Gang

Chicago’s The Cairo Gang sound like they just stepped out of the sixties with their jangly brand of candy coated power-pop. Their new album, Goes Missing, is available now from Ty Segall’s Drag City Records imprint GOD?. Check out the poppy as hell “Ice Fishing” (below) for a taste of their goodness.

Negative Scanner

Chicago 4-piece Negative Scanner beats you into submission with their ferocious brand of post-punk. Guitarist/vocalist Rebecca Valeriano-Flores’ Jello Biafra-esque howl blows minds and melts eardrums. Dig the blistering single “Would You Rather” (below) – you will be glad that you did.

Negative Scanner’s self-titled debut is out now on Trouble In Mind Records. It’s one of 2015’s albums not to miss.

The GTVs

Philadelphia rock ‘n’ soul combo The GTVs just dropped their newest instrumental, organ-driven, rump-shakin’ single, Organ Donor b/w Here’s A Thing on Hidden Volume Records. You can stream it’s goodness below.

I highly recommend getting your hands on the 7 inch as Hidden Volume has raised the bar when it comes to the vinyl/packaging experience. Also included below, for your listening pleasure, is “Sh’Bang!” from their debut LP with Teen Sound Records.

Munroe

Hamilton, Ontario’s Kathleen Munroe has one of those great smokey voices that instantly captivates. Add some warm, dreamy guitar tones and a driving backbeat, like on “Summer” (below) and you have one of the best songs of 2015.

Munroe’s self-titled EP is out now on Hidden Pony Records and available on iTunes.

Dustin Lovelis

I don’t know if multi-instrumentalist Dustin Lovelis intended for his debut solo LP, Dimensions, be listened to in a dimly lit room with the listener in a relaxed position, but that is how I have been enjoying this record. So turn down the lights, maybe light a candle or two and chill out to the dusty vocals and warped guitar of “Idiot” below.

Dimensions is out now and available through Porch Party Records. Enjoy.

Lady God

The late, great 7 Inches blog (RIP) is where I first heard Virgina 3-piece Lady God. Coincidentally, the very day I read about them vocalist/bass player Chrissie reached out to me about posting their new 7″, Lady God Presents: The Pebbles!. It was meant to be.

Lady God play a grimey brand of butt shaking, reverb-soaked, surf guitar driven, garage rock. The 7″ has barely left my turntable since it arrived in my mailbox. Check it out below and snag yourself a copy of the digital single or the 7″ from their Bandcamp page before it’s long gone. Enjoy!
