Mora Tuga is the imaginary world that RUMTUM (sometimes known as John Hastings) created through drawings as a kid. A graphic novel that he wasn’t able to finish as a kid has now been completed through his new LP of the same name. Like RUMTUM’s drawings and illustrations, his music is created very much in the same way, as layers upon layers of guitars, percussion, synths and more play and bounce off of each other with precise intent.

Mora Tuga is clearly a labor of love. I highly recommend getting lost in it. Give “Hemispheres” (below) a spin – it’s a perfect peek into the world that RUMTUM has created.

Mora Tuga is available now on vinyl through the fabulous Wax Thématique Records – you’d be a fool not to get a copy of this on vinyl. If vinyl is not your thing you can get it digitally from RUMTUM’s Bandcamp page. Please enjoy.

Conveyor

Conveyor | Ready Not Ready | 3hive.com

It’s a bit early to name Conveyor’s new release, Ready Not Ready, album of the year for 2016, but it’s jangly guitars, over groove-driven bass lines, mixed with some well-placed horns and strings, all wrapped up nicely with some tight as hell drum kit work, has set the bar possibly too high to surpass. Give one of the many standout tracks, “Caul”, a spin below. It’s a great sample of the album’s geniusness.

Ready Not Ready is available now on vinyl from Gold Robot Records and digitally from Conveyor’s Bandcamp page. Enjoy.

Chicago rock ‘n’ rollers, The Evening Attraction recently released their newest 7-inch single, The Evening Attraction Presents: Tea Party, on Classic Waxxx Records. The A-side, “The Kids Don’t Care (For Rock ‘n’ Roll)”(streaming below) is a stomping, garage-pop romp that’s sure to shake even the gloomiest person out of their funk.

The Evening Attraction Presents: Tea Party is available digitally from The Evening Attraction’s Bandcamp page and also available on vinyl from Classic Waxxx – I highly recommend picking up a vinyl copy before they are gone.

Atlanta powerhouse trio, Omni, throw it down on their hook-filled, power-pop release Deluxe. The chugging bass, angular guitar and frantic backbeat of opener “Afterlife” (below) not only make it one of the best songs on the album, but one of my favorite songs so far this year.

Deluxe is out now through Trouble In Mind Records. It’s one of my favorite records so far this year and a great one to crank up and pogo around the house to. Enjoy

Yea-Ming And The Rumours debut album, I Will Make You Mine, is an exceptional 33 minutes of indie-surf-country-pop-rock. Yea-Ming Chen’s smokey voice is a killer, and really matches up well with all the different genres she and her band, The Rumours, throw at these 10 songs. Give the country-like, album standout “You Took Be By The Hand” (below) a spin, you will not be disappointed.

I Will Make You Mine is available now on cassette from Burger Records and also available digitally from Yea-Ming And The Rumours Bandcamp page.

Ladyhawke

New Zealander Pip Brown, AKA Ladyhawke, has made some changes in her life over the three years since her last album’s release. She gave up drinking and focused on getting healthy. This new found health is clearly evident on her newest sunny, electro-pop release Wild Things.

Album opener ‘A Love Song” (below) is packed with bright tones and throbbing synths – a real pop gem that’s sure to get a dance party started, even if it’s only a dance party for one.

Wild Things is out now and available from Polyvinyl Records. Check it out.

If fuzzy, spaced-out, psychedelic, kraut rock is your thing then Greece’s Holy Monitor is the band for you. Get lost in the reverbed, jangly, grime of “Golden Light” below. It’s a killer example of what these guys can do.

Ongakubaka Records has compiled both of Holy Monitor’s self released EPs onto one fine cassette (available for preorder now) which will be unleashed on July 16. Golden Light/Aeolus is also available now digitally via Ongakubaka’s Bandcamp page.

Massenger

Massenger are a 4-piece garage punk outfit out of Ventura, Ca. They play a heavy, fuzzed-out brand of punk rock that’s sure to get the beads of sweat forming on your forehead. Check out the grimey burner “Eego Game” below for a taste.

Their new album, Peeling Out, is available now on vinyl or cassette from Burger Records or digitally from their own Bandcamp page. Enjoy.

Blktop Project

I’ve been a fan of Tommy Guerrero since I was 13 years old, 1987 – the year I picked up on skateboarding. The Bones Brigade were in their prime and Guerrero was my favorite skateboarder. During that year my friends and I watched The Search For Animal Chin at least 100 times. His flaming dagger deck was one of my very first rides.

Flash forward to 2004 when I was reintroduced to Tommy Guerrero as a musician on this very site in a post by site founder Sean. Now, 12 years later Tommy is still at it with his new band BLKTOP PROJECT featuring Josh Lippi and fellow skaters Ray Barbee, Chuck Treece and Matt Rodriguez.

Recorded live over two days, their new album, Concrete Jungle is a loose, grooved-out, rocker of a record with a great jam session feel to it. Check the stream of “A New Line” below for a taste. It’s a real rump shaker.

Concrete Jungle is out today through Guerrero’s own Too Good records and available to buy from his Bandcamp page.

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard

Those of you familiar with Australian psych rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard know that they are always pushing the musical envelope. On their 8th album in 4 years, Nonagon Infinity, they are at it again. This time they have created what they are describing a “never-ending album” – with each of the 9 tracks flowing into each other, including track 9 flowing back into track 1.

Putting the “never-ending album” claim to the test over the past weekend, I made Nonagon Infinity my soundtrack for around 15 miles or so of walking, and it is as advertised – seamless.

Nonagon Infinity is a damn fine album, potentially album of the year, packed wall to wall with scuzzy guitars and throbbing bass lines over the top of frenzied double drumming beats.

Nonagon Infinity is available now in all formats via ATO Records and King Gizzard’s Bandcamp page.
