Munroe

Hamilton, Ontario’s Kathleen Munroe has one of those great smokey voices that instantly captivates. Add some warm, dreamy guitar tones and a driving backbeat, like on “Summer” (below) and you have one of the best songs of 2015.

Munroe’s self-titled EP is out now on Hidden Pony Records and available on iTunes.

Dustin Lovelis

I don’t know if multi-instrumentalist Dustin Lovelis intended for his debut solo LP, Dimensions, be listened to in a dimly lit room with the listener in a relaxed position, but that is how I have been enjoying this record. So turn down the lights, maybe light a candle or two and chill out to the dusty vocals and warped guitar of “Idiot” below.

Dimensions is out now and available through Porch Party Records. Enjoy.

Cafe Lanai

I can’t get enough of Vancouver electro-pop duo Cafe Lanai. The tropical sounds, hushed vocals and throbbing beat of their first single, “Lanai” (below), is quite intoxicating and I find myself listening to it over and over again.

Cafe Lanai’s debut EP, Paradise, is out June 3oth on Hybridity Music. It’s the perfect soundtrack for your cruise around town. Make sure the volume is up and your windows are down.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is set to release Multi-Love, their 3rd LP and 2nd with Jagjaguwar Records.  Multi-Love, showcases the wonkier side of UMO, similar to their 2011 Fat Possum self-titled debut.

Check out “Can’t Keep Checking My Phone” below. It’s a funky, head-nodding slab of psych-pop goodness.

Multi-Love is out now and available to buy from Jagjaguwar or your favorite record store. Enjoy.

Azores

I’m a sucker for catchy power-pop music and Harrisonburg, VA’s Azores really hits the spot. The jangly goodness of opening track “All Day Fantasy” (below) is quite addicting and I find myself playing it over and over again.

Azores’ self-titled cassette is available now from Funny / Not Funny. It’s also available digitally on Azores’ Bandcamp page. Enjoy.

The Noble Krell

Arizona’s The Noble Krell play an addicting brand of 60’s era, jangly, psychedelic pop that demands being played on repeat. Their new single Never Ever is out now from Hidden Volume Records and available to stream below via their Bandcamp page. Enjoy!

Sarah Bethe Nelson

I’ve been really enjoying Sarah Bethe Nelson’s debut album, Fast-Moving Clouds, quite a bit lately. Her smooth, breathy vocals and witty song writing skills gel together nicely to form one of the better indie pop albums of the year. Check out the dreamy break up song, “Paying”, below for a taste.

Fast-Moving Clouds is available now from Burger Records.

LABRYYYNTH

LABRYYYNTH is a new project from members of Dr. Dog and Golden Boots. Their self-titled debut LP is 10 tracks of stripped down, sci-fi themed, head nodding 70’s era pop rock. Check out the Moog driven toe-tapper “Traveling Strange” below. LABRYYYNTH’s album is available in all formats from PIAPTK. It’s also available on cassette from Burger and vinyl from Bleeding Gold. I highly recommend it.

Borrowed Beams of Light – New Boss

I apologize for my month long hiatus as I dealt with sickness and busyness. As an attempt to make up for the lack of posts I offer you a two-for-one from my friends at Funny / Not Funny Records. They just released a split cassette from two really cool bands, Borrowed Beams of Light and New Boss, and I have two tracks below for your listening downloading pleasure.

“Long-Necked Wife” from Borrowed Beams of Light is super chill and pretty damn groovy, while “Last Try” from New Boss is more upbeat and poppy. The two tracks contrast each other well and are great examples of what you can expect throughout the entire release. The split cassette is available now from Funny / Not Funny. I highly recommend it.
