There is so much music out there it’s impossible (obviously) to hear it all, and it’s really easy to miss out on a gem. One of those gems I missed on last year is The Paperheads excellent album Africa Avenue. It’s killer blend of spacey synths, pounding drums and jangly/crunching guitars sound like they came straight out of the 60’s.
You can sample their psych-pop goodness on lead track “Africa” below. Africa Avenue is available to buy now from Trouble In Mind and I highly recommend that you do.
Listening to West Virginia’s Goodwolf is like getting off a time machine in the late 90’s/early 00’s. Their fresh take on twangy – Lemonheads meets a peppier Cub Country with a dash of The Promise Ring – indie rock is a sweet, sweet nostalgic ride.
Goodwolf released their latest LP, Car In The Woods, back in October with Twin Cousins Records. It’s a solid release and definitely worth your time. Check out “Rechico” below for a taste.

Tucson’s La Cerca have been around as far as I can tell since at least 2002, but they are brand new to me. I stumbled across their new album, Sunrise for Everyone, one afternoon while searching the nets for new music. Their dusty, hook-filled brand of indie rock immediately captivated me.
Sunrise for Everyone took the better part of three years to record, and it shows as it’s songs are full of masterfully crafted layers of indie rock gold. Check out the standout, slow builder “Weather Festival” below for a taste.

New Jersey trio The Insomniacs’ new 7″ single, Today’s The Way, is a head bobbing, toe tapping, power pop gem. My favorite of the two tracks is the B-side “Mr. Yesterday”, it’s snotty as hell and I can’t get enough of it. Both songs are available to stream below.
