Broth are a 5-piece band out of Eugene Oregon. Their slow-build, horns-a-plenty, groove-filled brand of R&B/rock and soul is infectious. I’ve been listening to their new EP, Simmer Down, on repeat for the past week. They remind me of early 00’s band Scapegoat Wax, even though they don’t sound anything like them. Maybe it’s a groove thing, who knows where thoughts come from?

Check out “The Eug” (below) for a taste. Simmer Down is out now on most digital platforms. Enjoy.

TRENDS

Trends is a 4-piece band out of Los Angeles. Their debut album, Palettes, is 9 tracks of slow building, gazey dream-pop tunes that are really pleasing to the ears. For example, on their single, “Branches” (below), Marina Paiz’s dreamy vocals gently guide you into a full on assault of scuzzy guitar accompanied by killer vocal harmonies that make you feel like you’ve just mainlined Karo syrup. It’s a really effective formula.

Palettes comes out on January 24. I highly recommend checking it out.

Grow Rich is the one man band project of Jakarta’s Abdur Rahim Latada. His latest EP, Frantic Semantic, is 4 tracks of heavy fuzz meets jangly guitars laid over the top of pounding drum beats, it’s like hardcore shoegaze. Check out EP opener “Bounce Back” (below) for a taste.

Frantic Semantic is available now via Abdur’s Bandcamp page, it’s definitely worth the $5. Enjoy.

Sometimes I need a kick in the pants to get back into gear and JW Francis’ new EP was that kick in the pants for me – I think – let’s see if I can stay consistent with the posts.

JW’s music came my way via an email submission. His 4 song EP of bedroom-pop goodness, I’ll Love You Forever, Bye, hit me right in the feels. His lo-fi, jangly, pop tunes are sincere and obviously about the people he cares most about and that is what captivated me and motivated me to write this post.

I’ll Love You Forever, Bye is available now via JW Francis’ Bandcamp page you can also stream it below. Enjoy.

New Aura

Boston’s New Aura put their modern spin on 60’s and 70’s era psych on their debut self-titled EP, which is packed full of swirling, reverbed guitars over fried crispy vocals. Check out “Nick Cage” (below) to see what I mean.

You can get New Aura’s S/T EP now on cassette and digitally from their Bandcamp page.

LAZY SALON

LAZY SALON is back with Boot Magna, his newest release of tasty, hypnotic beats. Boot Magna is split into 2 sides, side one is more uptempo and dance-friendly while side two takes things back a bit with a more chilled-out vibe. Boot Magna is made up of a combination of remixes, new tracks and previously unreleased tracks. LAZY SALON is damn good at what he does and Boot Magna is no exception. You can snag Boot Magna now via LAZY SALON’s Bandcamp page – I highly recommend that you do.

Droopies

Philadelphia 3-piece, Droopies, are the definition of the term power-trio. Their sophomore release Responsible People is packed with in-your-face hooks as they bounce between shoegazey punk rock and jangly psych-pop, with one common denominator: fuzz and lots of it. These guys get pretty big sound for there just being three of them.

Responsible People is out now digitally via Droopies Bandcamp page and on a limited cassette release through Funny / Not Funny Records. Give “Gone Wrong” (below) a spin, then go get your hands on a copy of this bad boy. Enjoy.

San Francisco’s Spiritual Cramp are a refreshing throwback to the snotty rock ‘n roll and punk rock days of the 70’s and 80’s. Their debut EP Mass Hysteria is a real stomper. Check out the shimmery (dare I say Clash-like?) “Tenderloin” and the in your face “Wrecking Machine” below.

Mass Hysteria is out digitally via Spiritual Cramp’s Bandcamp page and on vinyl through Deathwish.

Josaleigh Pollett

There are several albums from 2017 that have been on my list to get on the site for quite some time. Towards the top of that list is Ogden, Utah’s Josaleigh Pollett. Her latest, Strangers, is a top-notch country/folk album that showcases Pollett’s excellent songwriting, killer guitar picking and powerful vocals. Her backing band is pretty damn awesome too. Check out “Ghost” below for a taste.

Strangers is available now on vinyl or digital via Josaleigh Pollett’s Bandcamp page.
