Fingers of The Sun

In trying to keep the summer theme going, here is Denver’s Fingers of The Sun. This 6-piece psych pop band led by Suzi Allegra and Nathan Brasil just put out their newest EP simply titled 3 EP, featuring 5 songs of paisley-psych-garage-pop-rock goodness that is sure to brighten anyone’s day. 3 EP is available digitally from Fingers of The Sun’s Bandcamp page and on cassette from Burger records.

Check out super-sunny opener “Tambourines & Toasters” below. It reminds me of the Cowsills’ “The Rain, The Park and Other Things” even though it sounds nothing like it, it must be the vibe. Trust me, you are going to dig it.

Skye Steele

Straight from the inbox comes multi-instrumentalist Skye Steele’s new EP Glorious Sunshine. It contains 5 songs of dreamy, haunting and sometimes pretty sparse folk songs.

Skye’s guitar and vocals play of each other well while the vocal harmonies and piano hauntingly swirl in and out of the foreground on “Singing In The Street” (below), the standout track from the EP. Glorious Sunshine is available now through iTunes. Enjoy.

Silver Dapple

If you’re a fan of fuzzy pop music, Montréal’s Silver Dapple is the band for you. Their brand of grimey shoegaze is quite intoxicating. Hear for yourself (below) the title track from their new 4 song EP I Hate My Birthday. It is available to buy digital or on cassette from Silver Dapple’s Bandcamp page. Enjoy.

Toui Manikhouth

Canadian singer-songwriter Toui Manikhouth’s 3 song EP, This Service, is very chill and quite elegant. His hushed vocals are barely audible over his guitar, which reminds me a bit of Elliott Smith.

Have a listen to “Flowers In Zara” (below) the standout track from the EP. This Service is available to stream/download (name your price) on his Bandcamp page. It’s very much worth a listen. Enjoy.

Regal Beast

Salt Lake City’s Regal Beast have carved a special place in my heart. They have taken me back to the “good old days”. The late 80’s and early 90’s, when my ears were opened to the world of “alternative” music.

The pounding drums, heavy guitar and especially Hans’/Thayne’s vocals (they list both of them as singers on their Facebook page) on “Orcas Magnus” (below) reminds me of Soundgarden from the Badmotorfinger days. Which is one of the albums that I had on constant repeat back in the day. Regal Beast’s rocking debut album, Beastia Novus Rexus Trismegistus, is out now and available to stream and purchase on their Bandcamp page.

Thanks to Garret for the heads up.

RUMTUM

If you like listening to cut up bits of soul, tropical, world and basically any other genre of music all mixed together with some slick hip-hop beats, then Cleveland’s RUMTUM (aka John Hastings) is the artist for you. Even if this concept seems completely foreign to you, trust me, you will dig this.

RUMTUM released his debut LP Mystic Wonders back in September on 1320 Records and his own Bandcamp page. He has also collaborated with the one and only Monster Rally on a couple EPs. Enjoy the songs below, they are just a taste of RUMTUM’s greatness. Now get out there and track down the rest of his stuff, all of it is must have music.

Travel Check

Travel Check is a four-piece garage rock band out of Paris, France. I stumbled across their Bandcamp page while searching for something new to listen to. Their fuzzy vocals and guitars along with driving beats are quite intoxicating, and grabbed my attention immediately. Check out “La Gravière” (below) to hear their fuzzed-out goodness for yourself.

They just released their newest 7 inch 66$ with Howlin’ Banana Records and on their Bandcamp page. I highly recommend it.

HOTT MT

Los Angeles’ HOTT MT tag themselves on their Bandcamp page as “experimental, noise pop, surf, thai, gaze”. Those tags are all right up my ally, and while I don’t really hear the “surf”, these guys have all the “gaze” you could want and then some. HOTT MT have made the rounds in their short career as a band, collaborating with Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and opening for such bands as Django Django, Bats For Lashes, Flaming Lips and Wavves.

HOTT MT’s debut album, I Made This, came out back in May on their Bandcamp page and on cassette with Burger Records. It’s a fuzzy, chilled-out album that will take away the stresses of life – for 24 minutes. Check out the spacey, slow-jam goodness of “Lil Saigon” below, I know you will dig it.

L’anarchiste

L’anarchiste is one of Salt Lake City’s best bands going right now. What started as a solo project of Rob LeCheminant, has grown into a six-piece multi-instrumental juggernaut. Their new EP, The Traveler, has a bit of everything, from driving rhythms and hand claps, to slow, dark, heavy jams. Check out the slow-build-before-eruption track “Juneau” (below), I guarantee you will dig it. The Traveler is available to stream in full and buy from L’anarchiste’s Bandcamp page. I highly recommend it.

TV Girl

I’ve been a huge fan of San Diego’s TV Girl ever since I stumbled upon their self-titled EP on their Bandcamp page back in 2010. Their blend of electo-indie-tropical-surf-lo-fi pop music is very addictive, like eating potato chips, you can’t just listen to one song.

They are realeasing their new EP Lonely Women today. It’s so damn good. It’s been on repeat almost non-stop since they sent it to me. You can sample their coolness below on “She Smokes In Bed”. The driving beat of this song is sure to get your head bobbing up and down. You can buy the new EP digitally or on cassette at their Bandcamp page, I suggest that you do, it may become your favorite release of the summer. Enjoy!
