Massachusetts’ Jeanines are back with their latest (and greatest) album, How Long Can It Last. This album is a true pop gem. The songs explore heavy themes, yet they’re delivered with such charming and “heavenly” melodies that they trick the brain. And with all the turmoil that surrounds all of us, whose brain doesn’t need to be tricked?

In a short exchange between myself and Slumberland’s Mike Schulman, he wrote (about the new Jeanines LP), “…things are so crap right now, I need some beauty and light!” That sentence could have just been my review.

How Long Can It Last is out on Friday (06/27) via Slumberland and Skep Wax Records. You can stream the fantastic singles below. This album belongs in any pop music fan’s collection.

We all need some beauty and light! Enjoy.

Humdrum

Humdrum’s (a new project from Chicago’s Loren Vanderbilt III) debut LP, Every Heaven, is ten perfectly crafted pop songs that are full of meaning and instantly transport listeners back to a time when bands like The Cure, (IRS-era) R.E.M., New Order, and Modern English (that’s right! tell me you don’t hear a little “I Melt With You” in Humdrum’s “Eternal Blue”) were ruling the (good) airwaves. Check out “Superbloom” and “Eternal Blue” (below) to hear for yourself.

Every Heaven is out today on Slumberland Records. You can get it from us at 3hive Record Lounge as well. I cannot recommend this album highly enough. Enjoy.

Oakland band Torrey weaves the twelve tracks contained on their new self-titled album in, out, and through bits of shoegaze, indie pop, jangle pop, and rock. Creating an infectious 35 minutes of listening pleasure and a definite contender for album of the year.

Check out “Bounce”, “Hawaii” and “Slow Blues” below for a taste.

Torrey is out now on Slumberland Records. You NEED this records in your life. Enjoy.

San Francisco’s The Umbrellas are back with their sophomore effort “fairweather friend” and 10 more tracks of pop perfection — shimmering, jangly, edgy, power-pop perfection. These words are not hyperbole either, this album is flawless. It’s impossible to highlight a track or two, so I’ll take the easy way out and post the singles below. Please give them a listen.

“fairweather friend” is out on Friday (01/26/2024) you can get it from Slumberland Records here and here. Tough Love Records here and from the 3hive Record Lounge in Provo, UT here. Wherever you choose to purchase makes almost no difference to us, just get your hands on this record and enjoy.

Artsick

“Is this new All Girl Summer Fun Band?” my wife asked during my first spin of Artsick’s debut album Fingers Crossed. That is one of the highest compliments any band can receive from her – she loves AGSFB. The only higher compliment from her would be “is this new Dance Hall Crashers?” Neither of Annie’s favorite bands have released anything new, but this Oakland 3-piece does share some musical similarities – female-fronted, guitar-driven, jangle-punk with bright vocals and vocal harmonies.

Fingers Crossed is a stunner and another solid release from Slumberland. It comes and goes quickly, clocking in at just around 28 minutes, but it demands a re-spin the second it’s over. Check out “Ghost of Myself” and “Fiction” below for a taste. Fingers Crossed is out now on Slumberland Records. You can snag it on all formats via their Bandcamp page. We will also have it available on vinyl in our store. Enjoy.

Peel Dream Magazine

Peel Dream Magazine are back with their incredible new LP, Agitprop Alterna. This sophomore release is so full of shimmery fuzz and gaze it’s sure to make any fans of Stereolab, Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine sit up and pay attention.

The male-female vocals throughout the album really shine alongside the shoegazy walls of sound. Check out “NYC Illuminati” (below) for a taste. It’s a head-nodder for sure and about three quarters of the way through, some sound effect kicks in that has you convinced there is water leaking somewhere around you, seriously, it freaked me out the first time I listened to it.

Agitprop Alterna is a solid record from start to finish. I can’t sum it up any clearer. It’s a contender for album of the year for me for sure.

Agitprop Alterna is out now via Slumberland Records. We also have it available at the 3hive Record Lounge. Pick it up. Spin it. Enjoy.

Stay safe everyone.

Business of Dreams

Corey Cunningham has been making music for quite sometime now, most notably in Magic Bullets and Terry Malts. He started Business of Dreams as a way to cope with loss and a life he had left in the past. His second album and first (as BoD) with Slumberland Records, Ripe For Anarchy, Cunningham has focused his songs on moving on and letting go. What he’s created with Ripe For Anarchy is a pure indie-pop gem. A sure fit in the Slumberland catalog. Give the incredible “My Old Town” and “Ripe For Anarchy” a spin below for a taste. I can say with certainty that this will be on my favorites of 2019 list come December. Enjoy.

Proper Ornaments

The Proper Ornaments | Foxhole | 3hive.com

We are big fans of Veronica Falls and Ultimate Painting here at 3hive, so when the new Proper Ornaments (another project of James Hoare’s) landed in the inbox I was quite stoked to give it a spin and I really haven’t stopped listening to it since.

Foxhole, their latest release with Slumberland Records, has a lo-fi, groove-pop vibe reminds me a lot of Ultimate Painting – especially when the noodly Velvet Underground style guitar play is in full effect.

Give their chilled-out single “Memories” a spin (below) and head over to Slumberland Records and get your hands on a copy. Enjoy.

[Psst, you can buy Proper Ornaments vinyl in the 3hive Co-op Shop.]
