Cut Chemist

After a dozen years of being a team player for LA hip-hop legends Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, turntable maestro Cut Chemist is about to follow in the footsteps of his cratedigging buddy, DJ Shadow, and drop his major label solo opus. If these two tastes are any indication, this joint’s gonna have both range and flavor. “The Garden” features deft cuts, lush instrumentation, and lilting Brazilian vocals. “Storm” is classic Chemist: a wicked b-boy playground wherein top-shelf underground MCs Edan and Mr. Lif run amok like schoolkids. In fact, Mr. Lif drops the line our eight-digit 3hiver Sean has been waiting his whole life to hear: “opposable thumbs don’t mean you can get dumb” — WORD! The Audience’s Listening hits June 13 . Meanwhile, fiends like me will have to wear these tracks out and seek the occasional comfort of my Brainfreeze bootleg.

  1. I really like these tracks. Thanks for spotting this artist out to me.
I did know DJ Shadow before, and I already knew that there existed an Artist called Cut Chemist, but I had no idea what it was. Now I know and I will look out for the Album Release.
    All the best

  2. Quite a range between both tracks. I like them both and Lif always brings life when I hear him rhyme. I will definately keep an eye out for the Cut Chemist release.

  3. hmm, eric, future primitive is a classic. but better than brainfreeze…? that's a tough one for me cuz i saw brainfreeze done live (with a fully functioning slurpee machine by the merch stand) at the el rey in l.a. and it was bananas. plus i love the idea of only spinning 7-inches. maybe we can both agree that cut chemist is dope and leave it at that 🙂

  4. Wow,
A pair of excellent tracks. I can't wait for the full length.
And I was at that Brainfreeze show at the El Rey. I flew into LAX minutes before the show started and was so jet lagged that I pretty much had to be propped up against a wall.
But even through my mental haze, I must admit it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen

  5. I stumled upon 3hive googling for Cut Chemist's The Garden. Great site.

It's a Brazilian classic tune called Berimbau (the instrument they use in capoeira)
